With more than 17,000 ISO Standards since its inception in 1947, it’s hard to keep track of which companies, in which industries should have which standards in place.
At MJS Designs, we take compliance and meeting top industry standards to heart. The following standards are in place, at the time of this article, December 2011.
ISO 9001
ISO 9001 is an International Quality Management System Standard that specifies requirements within which an organization demonstrates its ability to consistently provide product or service to meet customer and legal requirements, enhancing customer satisfaction and opening the way to continual improvement. The requirements are intended to be applicable to all organizations, regardless of type, size or product/service provided. Globally more than one million organizations have implemented ISO 9001 Management Systems (50,000 organizations in North America).
ISO 9001 was originally published in 1987 by the International Organization for Standardization, a worldwide federation of national standards bodies, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The Organization was founded in 1946 to develop a common set of standards for manufacturing, trade and communications. Today more than 150 countries are members, each with a representative. The representative for the United States is the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In addition to ISO 9001, more than 17,000 other ISO standards exist. ISO 9001:2008 is the current version of this standard.
AS9100
AS9100 is the quality management standard specific to the aerospace industry but it also includes the ISO 9001:2000 standard verbatim. Consequently, any company registered to AS9100 also meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 or 2008. In addition, this standard includes additional requirements specific to the unique requirements of the aerospace industry.
Our New Certification: Medical ISO 13485:2003
In order to provide an enhanced quality management system to our customers, we are pleased to announce that we received our Medical ISO 13485:2003 certification. This certification is oriented towards the design, development, production, and installation of medical devices and related services. Over the years we have participated in many medical device projects, from design to manufacturing to testing. This certification demonstrates our commitment to adhering to the highest standards in the medical industry.
Our Updated Certification: AS9100C
In 2008 we obtained our AS9100B Aerospace certification. We recently obtained the C revision to this certification to maintain compliance with the AS9100C Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations. This update to the AS9100 certifications assures that MJS Designs continues to exceed customer and industry standards.
