If you’ve ever called or walked through the front doors of MJS Designs, chances are you’ve been greeted by Angel Chavez. For the past six years Angel has been the first face to welcome employees, visitors, and guests, always with a warm smile and an inviting presence. As the receptionist, he blends his background in hospitality with a genuine curiosity to learn and a natural ability to make everyone feel at ease the moment they arrive.
“Working in hospitality, you learn a lot about human nature, how to treat guests, and how to communicate with people in a respectful and professional way,” shares Angel.
Angel began his journey with MJS Designs in 2020, starting in accounts payable before transitioning into his current role as receptionist. Prior to joining MJS Designs, he spent 18 years working in hospitality, with many of those years spent as a café supervisor at a large resort in Phoenix. It was there that he refined his skills in customer service and team leadership, an experience that made his transition into the receptionist role a natural fit.
“The absolute main thing that I do is communicate with all of our customers and vendors,” says Angel. “Anybody that calls or comes in, I make sure that I follow the process.”
In his role as receptionist, Angel is more than just a friendly face, he’s the first point of contact for anyone who calls or visits MJS Designs. As a forward-facing representative of the company, he plays a key role in keeping communication flowing seamlessly across the team. Whether welcoming a customer or a vendor, Angel ensures each guest feels comfortable from the moment they arrive, guiding them through check-in, verifying their visit, and directing them where they need to go. He also upholds important security protocols, carefully managing visitor procedures and distributing the appropriate clearances with a high level of responsibility and attention to detail. Beyond the front desk, Angel helps keep operations running smoothly by ensuring packages and parts are delivered to the correct departments as they arrive by messenger, a small but essential role in keeping projects on track and on schedule.
“It just astonishes me that I can touch type. I’ve always wanted to learn that skill, ever since I was little and I cannot believe I know how to type.” expresses Angel. “I was always impressed by people who could do it, and now I can type 40 to 45 words per minute. I learned that here.”
Angel has truly valued the opportunity to work in a professional setting, where he has developed and refined a wide range of office skills, especially touch typing, a goal he’s had since he was younger. Working on the computer has also given him the chance to keep learning, building both confidence and efficiency in his day-to-day responsibilities. With the support and encouragement of colleagues like Estrella, Accounts Receivable Specialist, and Kirk, HR Manager, developing these skills has been even more meaningful, serving as a reminder that it’s never too late to embrace new experiences and take on challenges with a positive mindset. Angel also credits the welcoming, supportive culture at MJS Designs and his teammates for playing a key role in his continued growth and success. Seeing his colleagues come and go each day is one of his favorite parts of his role.

Angel is always a friendly and welcoming presence, whether greeting me at the start of the day or as I head out to meetings, and he is genuinely well-liked by everyone. When he is not greeting guests at the front of MJS Designs, Angel enjoys reading – especially books on finance and economics. He also likes visiting his brother, spending time outdoors, and going on walks.
