With a lifelong interest in math and numbers and a natural talent for organization, Estrella Ortega has truly found her calling in Accounts Receivable. Since joining the MJS Designs team three years ago, Estrella has excelled in her role and has demonstrated these innate skills every single day. She takes great pride in keeping the accounts in impeccable order as well as fostering strong relationships with clients. Estrella’s dedication and exceptional skills have made her an invaluable asset to the team.

Estrella’s fascination with numbers began at an early age. Throughout school, she had a particular affinity for math and the problem-solving challenges it presented. After graduating high school, she initially pursued a career in the restaurant and hospitality industry. However, she soon realized that she missed working with numbers and longed for a role where she could integrate her passion for math into her daily work.
Working in Accounts Receivable, she has fulfilled that goal. Additionally, Estrella is a vital part of the behind-the-scenes operations at MJS Designs. Her primary responsibilities include invoicing, shipping and monitoring customer payment schedules. Estrella began her journey at MJS Designs as a file clerk and quickly moved to Accounts Receivable after two months, thanks to her keen eye to detail. Estrella delights in the daily tasks of her role, enjoying the opportunity to closely collaborate with both internal team members such as Sonia Suarez, our Account Manager and Baylee Neumayer, our Manufacturing Manager, as well as many clients.
“I enjoy invoicing. It’s what I love most about what I do. The entire process, really, from running an A/R account, to calling the client if something is missing, to closing work tickets, even filing. I love it!”
One of the aspects that Estrella finds most fulfilling about her role is overseeing the comprehensive invoicing process. This includes everything from generating and sending invoices to matching purchase orders, labeling shipments, and ensuring completed orders are shipped out efficiently. Her attention to detail shines as she ensures accuracy and clarity in each transaction, underlining her commitment to ensuring that clients receive their orders promptly and seamlessly. Estrella also excels in client communication, particularly follow up on payments – a skill she has honed through dedicated effort and professional development courses. She credits the family-like environment and supportive culture of MJS Designs for fostering her growth and allowing her to continuously improve in her role.
“Estrella was hired when I was on vacation. I remember playing Spanish bingo with my family, and one of the words was Estrella, meaning Star. Little did I know that we had hired a true Star,” says Dawn Northrop, president of MJS Designs. “Estrella is successful in any project we ask her to take on. She mastered our ERP system much quicker than seasoned professionals with years of experience in accounting software. Estrella’s attention to detail ensures that our Manufacturing team provides proper documentation at product shipment. And she always ensures the Sales Team has their cookies, brownies, and presentation packets for all customer meetings, and professionally packaged for travel. She makes us all look good!”
Estrella has a big year ahead of her as she prepares for her upcoming wedding and move. When she’s not busy planning for her big day, or doing amazing things at MJS Designs, Estrella enjoys unwinding with puzzles and crafting beautiful ribbon flower bouquets.
