Employee Spotlight: Kathy Jarrett

Kathy Jarrett became part of the MJS Designs team just a year ago, but in that time, she has shown tremendous drive and dedication in the field of electronics engineering. Climbing the MJS ladder quickly, she moved from Quality Control Specialist to Production Supervisor in a matter of months and now serves as MJS’ Manufacturing Manager.

“MJS Designs is a great company to work for. The people here are very knowledgeable and friendly,” Kathy said, “It’s rewarding to be able to work within a friendly environment where we all share in the feeling of accomplishment when we meet deadlines and achieve client goals.”

As Manufacturing Manager, Kathy oversees daily operations for the production team, including coordinating and directing the activities of the production process, managing the schedule, and being the management and contact point for shipments as they relate to production. One of the recent challenges in her work has been planning and working around on-going supply chain issues, but Kathy doesn’t let that affect the quality or consistency of work coming from the team. She works diligently to make sure MJS continues to uphold the highest production standards and meet client deadlines.

To do this, Kathy oversees all facets of the daily output of the solder technicians, surface mount technicians, mechanical assembly technicians, quality technicians, test engineers and technicians. She ensures that changes in the projects are communicated with Purchasing, Documentation, Design, and Sales.  Additionally, Kathy is involved with capital equipment expenditure decisions to ensure MJS Designs continues to stay up to date with the latest technology.

Kathy’s career in electronics was stewarded by her father, who encouraged her to attend school at DeVry University. During her studies, she earned an Associate of Applied Science in Computer and Electronics Engineering Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management before taking on her first roles as a professional in her field.

“After obtaining my degree, I found a job at a contract manufacturing company,” Kathy explained. “I really enjoyed working with the prototypes. The days were never the same and the boards were always changing.”

Having worked as a surface mount technology operator and manufacturing technician for another manufacturing company and Medtronic, Inc., respectively, Jarrett honed her skills in the field for nearly 10 years before joining MJS Designs.

“Kathy works diligently to make the production process smooth, so our clients continue to receive the high-quality boards they have come to expect without having to compromise their timelines,” said President of MJS Designs Dawn Northrop. “We are thankful that she joined the company and we look forward to seeing the production team continue to flourish under her leadership.”

When she isn’t at work, Kathy can be found taking part in family hiking trips to locations such as Angel’s Landing at Zion National Park and the South Rim Trail of the Grand Canyon.
